Allegany County Plant Celebrates the Making of 100,000 Cabinets in Conjunction with Milestone

CUMBERLAND, MD., (August 24, 2005) – American Woodmark Corporation (AWC), a leading supplier of cabinetry to the new home construction and remodeling industries, celebrates the making of 100,000 cabinets at its Allegany manufacturing facility today during an event being held in conjunction with the company’s 25th Anniversary. The event will be attended by the Honorable Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., Governor of Maryland, as well as other state and local dignitaries.

To commemorate American Woodmark’s yearlong tribute to its silver anniversary, Governor Ehrlich will present a state certificate to the company and its employees. Additionally, a copy of the certificate will be placed in the company’s “Time ‘Cabinet’ Capsule” represented by the 100,000th cabinet. This Time Cabinet will be sealed during the dedication ceremony and will contain a variety of items from AWC and other Allegany institutions that reflect the culture and values of the company and its community. American Woodmark has experienced exponential growth since the company’s start in 1980. Now, the largest independent cabinet manufacturer in the United States, the company employs more than 6,500 people nationwide at 15 manufacturing plants and various builder service centers located around the country.

The Allegany facility, located in the newly developed Barton Business Park, assembles wood cabinet components received from other AWC plants and ships completed cabinets to customers located in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the United States. Since its inception on January 5, 2005, the plant has created jobs for nearly 200 employees. The company expects to employ approximately 500 people once the plant is fully developed over the next two to four years.

“With a long history of creating value and leadership, our employees have maintained a commitment over the last quarter-century to our customers, the industry and the community,” says Kent Guichard, executive vice president, American Woodmark. “This milestone is a momentous occasion for our company, and during this anniversary year, we’re calling upon all of our employees to help celebrate and recognize the communities in which we live and work.”

“We are truly excited about this company milestone,” says Perry Campbell, Allegany plant manager, American Woodmark. “Our success can be attributed to our employees’ hard work and dedication, as well as to the company’s devotion to customer satisfaction on all levels.
