American Woodmark Corporation (AWC)(NASDAQ: AMWD), a leading supplier of cabinetry to the new home construction and remodeling industries, announced today that Cary Dunston has been appointed senior vice president of manufacturing. In this role, Dunston is responsible for managing overall operations, logistics and supply chain functions for the company’s manufacturing network, including 15 plants.

Dunston reports directly to Kent Guichard, president and chief operating officer, American Woodmark. “Cary’s extensive experience in manufacturing and supply chain management makes him an ideal appointment for this leadership position at American Woodmark,” says Guichard. “I am confident that Cary will be highly effective in helping the manufacturing team achieve higher levels of efficiency and quality during the company’s next growth period.”

Dunston brings a broad range of experience in manufacturing and supply chain management to American Woodmark. He comes to American Woodmark from Diamond Innovations, a leading industrial supplier to the automotive, electronics and aerospace industries, where he was vice president, Global Operations. In this position, he was tasked to significantly reduce operating costs within China, Europe and the U.S. Prior to this, he worked as vice president of operations for BBA Fiberweb, a complex fabric and laminate manufacturing company. Here he instituted the roll-out of a continuous improvement program with training in both 6-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

Formerly, Dunston served in the U.S. Navy as an officer in the nuclear submarine fleet, where he was awarded Navy Commendation and three Navy Achievement Medals. He also has considerable experience in working with young children in the community, having completed formal training in drug education and mentoring. Further, he serves on the board of directors for the Center for Operational Excellence (COE). In participation with Ohio State University, the COE brings together a partnership of statewide business leaders and educators seeking to achieve excellence in operations management through education, research and networking. Dunston earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering and engineering management from the University of Missouri – Rolla, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University.
