Honoring Veterans: A Day of Remembrance and Gratitude

November 11, 2020

Veterans Day is celebrated annually on November 11th and gives us a full day to share words of remembrance, inspiration, thankfulness and encouragement to the veterans and active-duty military that served so selflessly for our freedom. “The core values in the military are very similar to American Woodmark’s core values and CITE principles. This is what initially drew me to the company." Russell R., Safety Manager"

Many of our team members took similar paths after service, and some came directly to American Woodmark after their time in the military.

“The core values in the military are very similar to American Woodmark’s core values and CITE principles. This is what initially drew me to the company. Similar to being on deployment on a ship, we often face challenges here at the Kingman Plant, and it seems we always stick together and get the job done the best we can and safely. Whether it is backorders or a health pandemic, it always feels like we are a tight-knit group and help each other out.” - Russell R., Safety Manager

Manufacturing
The majority of our highlighted team members went directly into manufacturing roles. Some of the positions they currently hold at American Woodmark include Quality Manager, Production Supervisor and Director of Demand Planning. In these roles, they transfer many of the skills they learned during their service, including Total Quality Management-The Deming Way, teamwork, leadership, managing relationships and discipline.

College
A few of our highlighted team members took the opportunity after their service to go to college. They are currently working in several different fields, but they are all using the key learnings of discipline, teamwork and respect for others in their career here at American Woodmark.

Other
The remaining team members took on different paths, including security, IT, Customer Care and helping troubled youth. During their service, each of these veterans learned how to better work with people and their differences. This skillset was used during their careers after their service and continues to be used today during their time at American Woodmark.
